One of the greatest volleyball players in New Jersey history, Ariel Scott began a new phase in her volleyball life when she joined the NJIT coaching staff as a full-time assistant prior to the 2014 season.
A 6-foot-4 outside hitter from Ridgewood, NJ, she first gained notice in high school as a key player for Immaculate Heart Academy as it swept to three straight NJ Tournament of Champions titles when she was in high school. Along the way, she was Gatorade New Jersey Player of the Year and state Player of the Year in The Star-Ledger.
Moving on to Penn State, she made an impact on the national scene as a star of one of the nation’s elite programs, becoming an immediate fixture in the starting lineup and was an American Volleyball Coaches Association All-America in each of her final three seasons (third team as a sophomore and first team as a junior and as a senior). As she led her team to three consecutive Big Ten Conference championships, she was All-Big Ten three times and Big Ten Player of the Year in 2012.
Penn State capped her freshman year (2010) and her senior year (2013) with NCAA Division I National Championships and she was a national finalist for the Senior CLASS Award, which includes student-athletes from many sports. Scott was one of four finalists in 2012-13 nominated for the Honda Sports Award for Volleyball.
She graduated in December 2013 with a BA in Advertising/Public Relations and was employed as a pharmaceutical recruitment consultant before taking her current job with NJIT.
