Valbrun, a graduate of NJIT (electrical engineering), has 30 years experience playing and coaching volleyball. Indeed, he had two seasons as NJIT women's volleyball head coach in 2001 and 2002, when the program competed at the NCAA Division II level.
The seasoned coach, returned to his alma mater to coach in 2014 after an absence of a decade, having followed his tenure as women's head coach with a year as a men’s assistant for the Highlanders in 2003.
He later led the Division II program at nearby Bloomfield (NJ) College, guiding that team to four consecutive conference playoff berths, ending in 2010. At the club level, he was a boys’ head coach with the Cut Shot Volleyball Club and he has served as head coach of the Atlantic Valley Volleyball Club in Westfield, NJ, since 2007, while adding duties as boys’ program director in 2013.
As a player, Valbrun was a member of the national team in his native Haiti and competed internationally, including in the 1988 Pan American Games. He was a two-year starter on the men’s team at NJIT.
He resides in Edison, NJ.
