Mark McCaleb joined the NJIT women’s basketball staff in July 2012.
McCaleb has served as both an assistant and a head coach at the collegiate level, beginning in 1996. He has been an assistant at three different Division I programs (Central Connecticut, Northeastern, and Delaware) and was a successful head coach in a seven-year stretch, beginning in 2003-04 at Division III Saint Joseph’s (Maine) and continuing in the ensuing six years at Division II Bridgeport. Before joining the staff at NJIT, he was an assistant coach in 2011-12 at Division III Springfield.
McCaleb earned his master’s degree from Springfield after graduating from the University of Massachusetts with a bachelor’s degree in 1989.
At Bridgeport, McCaleb took over a program that was 3-24 overall in 2003-04, the year before he took over, and led a stunning 19-win leap to 22-9 in his first season at the helm.
McCaleb guided Bridgeport to two NCAA Tournament appearances (2004-05 and 2009-10), posting a 103-71 record, including a 20-10 mark in his final season (2009-10). His record at Saint Joseph’s was 13-12, giving him a seven-year head coaching mark of 116-83.
In his most recent pre-NJIT Division I stop in 2010-11, he assisted at Delaware, which won 20 games and reached the Women’s National Invitation Tournament. He assisted at Central Connecticut from 1996 to 2001 and at Northeastern from 2001 to 2003.
