Biography
2020-21: Competed in all four of NJIT's meets...placed second in the 200 Back (1:59.96) against Binghamton on Mar. 21 and the 1000 Free (9:52.04) against Johns Hopkins on Apr. 11.
2019-20: Swam in nine meets for NJIT...holder of a pair of NJIT records (500 Free, 1st, 4:38.18, ECAC. Dec. 7; 1000 Free split (1650 Free); 9:42.82, ECAC, Dec. 6)...picked up 19 top-three finishes, including two wins (400 Free, 4:13.65, Providence, Oct. 25)....2019 ECAC Winter Championship Men's Swimmer of the Meet.
Prior to NJIT: Swam for coach Megan Perez at Brandeis High School and Alamo Area Aquatics Association and coach Derek Howorth...Earned Texas All-State honors in both swimming (2018-19) and diving (2017-18)...All-State Academic Team selection (2017-19).
Personal: Jake Tyler Nelms...son of Linda and Gerry Nelms...intends to major in Mechanical Engineering.
