John Farmer, a graduate of neighboring Rutgers University, Newark, where he was a four-year starter in baseball, became a graduate assistant coach at NJIT, starting in the fall of 2008.

He earned his bachelor’s degree at Rutgers-Newark with a major in criminal justice. On the ball field, he started three years at second base and one year at shortstop, batting close to .300 for his career and earning second-team all-conference honors in the New Jersey Athletic Conference in 2005.

He is a graduate of Toms River East High School, where he was four-year starter on teams that won six championships, including the 2001 New Jersey Group IV title.

Farmer has worked for three years on the grounds crew and operations for the professional Newark Bears and since 2005 on the Rutgers-Newark athletics building operations and game day staff.
