Reginald PT (Reg) Tomkins is a Professor of Chemistry and Associate Chairperson for Graduate and Undergraduate Studies and Industrial Relations at NJIT.
He is a 1963 graduate of the University of London (UK) with a BS in chemistry and physics. He earned a doctorate from the same university in 1966.
"Reggie was more of a support to the physical education program while I was (at NCE/NJIT)," recalled longtime coach and Director of Athletics and Physical Education Mal Simon. "He helped me teach badminton and tennis classes.
"He was a strong fan by attending many games. He also provided academic support."
His research interests include corrosion engineering; electrochemical methods for analysis; and solubility of gases in molten salts.
Included in his academic awards and honors are: NJIT Foundation Overseers Public and Institute Service Award - 1987; New Jersey Department of Higher Education: Faculty Recognition Award - 1989; North Jersey Section of the American Chemical Society: Harvey ; Russel Award for Contributions to Chemical Education - 1999; New Jersey Institute of Chemists: Honor Scroll Award - 1999; Newark College of Engineering: Excellence in Advising Award - 1999
