Getting to know Luiz De Miranda Leao III ...

Why did you choose NJIT?

I came on a recruiting trip for swimming and after talking to the advisers on campus, I asked myself the question "would I still come here if I couldn't swim?", when the answer to that question was "yes" I knew I wanted to be a Highlander.

When you were choosing between college swimming programs, what was unique about the NJIT Men's Swimming & Diving program?
I remember seeing a practice where the main set was something like 6x400's on a pretty quick interval, but throughout the whole practice no one was really complaining about it (possibly because they didn't have time between rounds) but then afterwards when the team went to dinner, there was still no complaining. That is something that was pretty unique to NJIT: the attitude.

Why did you choose to be part of the NJIT Men's Swimming & Diving program?
I wanted to see how much further I could push myself with swimming and, after looking at the quality of degree I'd be getting after graduating from NJIT as well as how the team was "on the rise" (and still is), I knew NJIT was the best place I could do that at.
