DOVER, DE — The NJIT women's volleyball team battled through a pair of matches Saturday at the DSU Invitational, falling to Lehigh and Quinnipiac in straight sets.
The Highlanders opened the doubleheader against Lehigh, battling throughout the opening set before the Mountain Hawks earned a 25-21 victory. Lehigh carried the momentum into the second set, taking a 25-10 decision, before closing out the match with a 25-20 win in the third set.
Junior Ema Torres led the Highlanders offensively with six kills, while freshman Joaneliz Maisonet added three kills.
Junior Finley McAndrew led the team with five assists and defensively, junior Cece Marino finished with four digs, which were both team highs.
NJIT returned to the court later Saturday afternoon against Quinnipiac. The Highlanders pushed the Bobcats in a tightly contested opening set, falling 26-24. Quinnipiac then took the second set, 25-15, before completing the sweep with a 25-12 third-set victory.
Torres paced the Highlanders for the second consecutive match, recording a team-high 10 kills. Maisonet and freshman Leah Devaraj each added five kills.
At setter, Marino finished with 16 assists while sophomore Ela Akay led the defensive effort with eight digs.

The Highlanders return home to Newark and welcome Lafayette on Wednesday, the 9th with first serve scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
