Baseball Drops Conference Opener to UAlbany on Friday Night

LITTLE FALLS, N.J. — The NJIT baseball team drops America East opener to UAlbany, 10-5, on Friday night at Yogi Berra Stadium.

The Great Danes struck early, plating four runs in the top of the first inning. The Highlanders were unable to recover from the early deficit despite steady offensive production throughout the game.

The Highlanders got on the board in the third inning when Cole Campbell launched a solo home run to left field, trimming the deficit to 4–1. The Highlanders added another run in the fourth, as Lorenzo Camilleri scored on a fielding error to make it a two-run game.

After the Great Danes pushed across a run in the sixth, the game broke open in the seventh inning with a five-run frame extending the Great Danes lead to 10–2.

The Highlanders continued to battle late, scoring single runs in the seventh, eighth, and ninth innings. Austin Francis recorded a sacrifice fly in the seventh, CJ Wisniewski added an RBI sac fly in the eighth, and Ty Sallie drove in a run with a single in the ninth.

At the plate, Campbell led the Highlanders, going 2-for-5 with a home run and an RBI. Jack Stead and Camilleri each recorded two hits, while Sallie added an RBI and scored a run.

On the mound, Josh Willitts took the loss for the Highlanders, allowing four runs (two earned) over four innings while striking out six. Becker Sybirski provided solid relief, tossing 2.1 scoreless innings to close out the game.
