BETHLEHEM, PA – The NJIT women's volleyball team drops doubleheader to Valparaiso and Lehigh at the Steel Classic Tournament.
Match 1 vs Valparaiso:

Set 2: Valparaiso - 25 | NJIT - 22
Set 3: Valparaiso - 25 | NJIT - 14
The Highlanders fell to Valparaiso in three straight sets despite a strong effort. The Highlanders were unable to overcome Valparaiso's efficient attack and solid defense, and their runs were quickly answered by Valparaiso.
Leading the way for the Highlanders was sophomore outside hitter
Ema Torres, who registered nine kills on 23 attempts and 9.5 points which both led the team. Junior outside hitter
Sara Siefert contributed defensively with five digs, but the Highlanders struggled to find consistency throughout the match.
As a team, NJIT hit just .169 for the match, while Valparaiso posted a more efficient .354.
Match 2 vs Lehigh:

Set 1: Lehigh - 25 | NJIT - 14
Set 2: Lehigh - 25 | NJIT - 13
Set 3: Lehigh - 25 | NJIT - 18
Much like match one of the afternoon, the Highlanders fell in straight sets to Lehigh. Despite battling throughout the evening, NJIT struggled to find offensive rhythm against a strong Lehigh attack. The Highlanders were limited to a .072 hitting percentage as a team, compared to Lehigh's .313.
The leaders for the Highlanders in the second match of the day was again
Ema Torres who led the team with 6.0 points and seven digs and was also tied for the team lead in kills with five alongside sophomore outside hitter
Aries Fontaine.
