NEW ROCHELLE, NY – The NJIT women's volleyball team opened the 2025 campaign on Friday at the Iona Invitational, falling to Boston College. The Eagles took down the Highlanders in straight sets to start the weekend.
Freshman
Emma Wild had an impressive collegiate debut by leading the team in total points with 9.0, contributing eight kills and two block assists. Junior
Rowan Schreiber started of her season strong, tallying four kills on just seven swings for a team-leading .571 hitting percentage, showing her veteran presence on the court. Another solid Highlander debut came from freshman
Ela Akay who posted three assists and added seven digs and an ace in a well-rounded effort.
Senior
Mariana Cova and Sophomore
Finley McAndrew added 5.0 and 4.0 points respectively, but NJIT's offense struggled to find rhythm throughout the match, finishing with a .107 hitting percentage as a team. McAndrew also led the team in assists with 19.
Defensively, NJIT matched Boston College with 29 digs however that was the only statistic both teams were even. The Highlanders had a spark halfway through the second set, going on a 5-2 run to get within two of the Eagles. However, shortly after the Eagles put together a run themselves scoring six straight to extend their lead.
