DeSchryver, Sallie, Wolf Earn First Team as All-America East Honors Announced

5/20/2025 3:08:00 PM

BOSTON – The NJIT baseball team was well represented on the America East All-Conference teams, announced Tuesday afternoon, with seven Highlanders receiving postseason honors from the league. Nate DeSchryver, Ty Sallie and Mason Wolf earned All-America East First Team recognition, while Andrew Eppinger, MT Morrissey and Ray Ortiz garnered Second Team honors. Michael Doyle was named to the All-Academic Team alongside Eppinger, Ortiz and Wolf.

DeSchryver was a dynamite addition to the NJIT pitching staff this season after transferring in from Gonzaga. The right-hander owns a 4.72 ERA in 15 appearances overall, a number which shrinks all the way down to 2.56 during America East games. DeSchryver joined the starting rotation on a regular basis prior to his start on April 4 against UAlbany and proceeded to allow two earned runs or less in six of his next seven starts. He posted a pair of 11-strikeout performances, doing so against UAlbany on April 4 and against UMass Lowell on May 15.

Wolf landed First Team honors at the catcher position after a tremendous season for the Highlanders. The graduate student enters the week with a .399 batting average, which would be a single-season NJIT record and ranks second in the America East. Wolf batted a team-best .423 during America East play with 17 RBI and a 1.128 OPS. Wolf enters the postseason riding a 16-game hitting streak, and he has also collected multiple hits in 12 consecutive games. His .474 on-base percentage on the season currently sits third in the America East.

Sallie has been strong on both sides of the diamond this year for NJIT, excelling offensively to the tune of a .309 overall batting average this season. On the defensive side, Sallie showed exceptional range in centerfield and committed just one error in 147 chances in 2025. Sallie's average soared to .341 during league play while driving in 14 runs and crossing home plate 26 times against conference opponents.

Morrissey transferred to NJIT this season having thrown just 48.1 innings over four seasons at Georgetown and Bryant, never surpassing 16.2 innings in any single season. The Portsmouth, R.I. native shouldered the biggest workload of his career to a Second Team recognition, posting a 5.14 ERA in 75.1 innings this season. Morrissey proved to be a workhorse, pitching into the seventh inning on five occasions this season. That includes his best start of the season just last weekend, where he struck out a career-high 11 batters and tossed a complete game in the win over UMass Lowell on May 16.

Ortiz has put together another fantastic season in an NJIT uniform. His 13 home runs sit atop the America East leaderboard, and the shortstop also paces the league with his 17 doubles and 57 runs scored. Ortiz became the first Highlander to post three separate double-digit home run seasons, and he currently sits one home run shy of becoming NJIT's career leader in the category. Ortiz has received national reognition as well, landing on D1Baseball.com's week six list of the Top 50 Shortstops in the nation, while also being named to the Brooks Wallace Award Midseason Watch List.

Eppinger was a steady force in the middle of NJIT's lineup throughout the season, touting a .353 batting average overall which ranks second on the team. His batting clip rose to .408 during America East games, ranking third in the league. Eppinger hit safely in 16 of the 19 America East games he appeared in, and launched a pair of home runs against Maine back on March 27.

Four Highlanders land on the All-Academic Team as well. Doyle currently owns a 4.0 GPA in his MBA program after posting a 3.8 undergraduate GPA in NJIT's business program. Eppinger also holds a 4.0 graduate GPA while pursuing his master's in pharmaceutical engineering. This came after Eppinger earned his bachelor's degree in chemical engineering with a 3.70 GPA. Ortiz has a 3.63 graduate GPA after totaling a 3.66 undergrad GPA, both in NJIT's Business and Information Systems program. Wolf has a graduate GPA on 3.75 while pursuing his MBA after transferring in with a 3.56 undergraduate GPA.
