CHARLESTON, WV–The NJIT men's volleyball team swept the EIVA men's volleyball weekend series at Charleston (WV) with a 3-0 sweep on Saturday afternoon.
NJIT, winners of three in a row, improved to 10-12 overall, 4-4 in the EIVA, moving into fourth place in the EIVA standings.
The Highlanders, which picked up a 3-1 win over the Golden Eagles on Friday night won in straight sets 25-20, 34-32 and 25-23 on Saturday afternoon for the weekend series sweep.
For the second straight match, senior Alessandro Negri led the Highlanders with 26 kills, which ties a career-best. Negri finished the match with a .525 hitting percentage. Middle Braeden Goebbert hit .556 for the match with five kills on nine swings with no errors.
Freshman setter Bruno Figueiredo combined for his 22nd match with double-digits assists, registering 41 assists to go along with seven digs.
Visiting NJIT led the team blocking category – 13-to-6 paced by Goebber with eight total blocks (three solo, five assists) followed by Josh Gregg (4), Antonio Feliciano (4) and Andrew Fedmasu (3).
Figueiredo and Gregg led the Highlanders with seven digs each while Negri and Feliciano each combined for five digs.
NJIT will continue its four match road swing and return to action on April 11-12 when the Highlanders visit Sacred Heart in EIVA Conference action. Friday's match will begin at 7pm while Saturday's match is slated to start at 3pm.
