ALBANY, NY–UAlbany defeated visiting NJIT in the regular season finale for both teams in America East Conference women's basketball action Saturday evening inside the Broadview Center.
With the win, the Great Danes are now winners of five in a row and improved to 24-5 overall, 14-2 in the America East while NJIT moved to 11-18 overall, 8-8 in the America East.
Graduate student Enya Maguire led NJIT with 17 points, a new career-best in a Highlander uniform behind 6-of-13 shooting from the field and 5-for-10 from three-point range. Senior Trinity Williams finished with 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting from the field while Marissa Gingrich chipped in eight points. Madilyn Dogs grabbed a team-best five rebounds.
Maguire knocked down a three-pointer for the Highlanders first points of the contest at the 8:44 mark and took a one-point lead, 6-5, on NJIT's second trey ball of the game from Aria Myers. UAlbany scored 17 unanswered over the final 6:02 for a 22-9 advantage. NJIT's Trinity Williams scored four straight to slim the lead to single digits, 22-13.
NJIT used a 7-3 spurt to start the second quarter, slimming the Great Danes lead to eight, 28-20, on a three-pointer from the right wing from Madilyn Dogs at the 6:50 mark. Maguire connected on her second three-pointer of the contest, cutting the lead to seven, 30-23. The Great Danes went on a 7-3 run to extend its lead to 11, 37-26. Olivia O'Meally scored with the clock winding down to cut the UAlbany lead to nine, 37-28, heading into the locker room.
Maguire led NJIT with nine points on 3-of-5 from three point range to go along with three rebounds, two assists and two steals. Marissa Gingrich scored five points, grabbed three rebounds and dished out two assists in 13 minutes of action.
A late 8-2 run by NJIT in the third quarter pulled the visiting Highlanders to within five of the Great Danes, 45-40, thanks to back-to-back three-pointers by Maguire and a driving layup by Williams, resulting in a timeout by UAlbany. The Great Danes responded with a 10-2 run over the final 4:23 of the quarter, including a three-pointer at the buzzer to extend its lead back to double-figures, 13, 55-42.
UAlbany stayed in control in the fourth quarter, pushing its lead 18+ and securing the home victory over NJIT.
The 2025 Jersey Mike's America East Women's Basketball Playoffs Quarterfinals is set as the fifth-seeded NJIT Highlanders will visit the fourth-seeded Maine Black Bears. Tip off is slated for 6pm on ESPN+.
