Visiting FDU Tops NJIT





NEWARK, NJ–Visiting FDU topped NJIT, 71-43, in non-conference women's basketball action Tuesday evening inside the Joel and Diane Bloom Wellness and Events Center.

NJIT moved to 6-2 on the young season while FDU won its second straight game, improving to 4-3 on the season.

Olivia Kulyk and Marissa Gingrich led the way for NJIT, scoring nine points while Avery O'Roke came off the bench to score eight points.  Ava Locklear pulled down a team-best seven rebounds and Allison Cannon grabbed six rebounds and chipped in six points.

FDU took control of the game from the jump, taking a 15-4 lead, resulting in an NJIT timeout at the 4:35 mark.  NJIT scored four straight points but the Knights closed out the first 10 minutes on a 7-2 run for a 22-10 advantage.

The Knights opened the scoring in the second quarter, 7-2, extending the visitors lead to 29-12.  NJIT's Marissa Gingrich connected on a three-pointer at the seven-minute mark to get the Highlanders on the board and cut the Knights deficit to 14, 32-18.  FDU closed out the quarter on a 6-2 spurt for a 38-20 halftime lead.

Gingrich led the team with nine points on 4-of-7 from the field.  FDU's Kailee McDonald led all scorers with 11 points.

The Knights scored seven consecutive points in the third quarter over a stretch of 2:12 for a 46-24 lead.  NJIT used a 6-2 run over 2:20 capped by a pair of free throws by Mackenzie Wright-Rawls cutting the deficit to 49-30 at the 3:05 mark.  FDU headed into the fourth quarter with a 55-34 advantage. 

FDU scored eight unanswered points, taking its biggest lead of the contest, 63-34, at the five-minute mark and outscored NJIT in the fourth quarter 16-9 and cruised to a 71-43 road victory.

Leading all scorers was Ava Renninger with 20 points, five rebounds and five assists followed by Kailee McDonald's 17 points on 5-of-9 shooting from three-point range and five rebounds.

Next Up
NJIT will conclude its four-game homestand after the Thanksgiving Holiday, when the Highlanders host Lafayette (Nov. 30).
