NEWARK, NJ–The NJIT men's soccer team turned in a dominant performance on Wednesday evening, shutting out Central Connecticut State, 4-0, at Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium in men's soccer non-conference action.
NJIT snapped a two-match skid, moving back into the win column and improving to a 3-3-1 overall record while CCSU still win less in 2024 falls to 0-6-1 on the season.
Wednesday marked the second time this season the Highlanders tallied four goals at home (4-0 vs. Saint Peter's on September 7).
The Highlander goals scorers on the night were: Alvaro Heredia, Amit Magoz, Matt Moran and Sergio Martinez Cubel.
Three NJIT players registered assists: Giovanni Massacesi, Raz Amir and Justin Aguirre-Rosas.
Transfer junior goalkeeper Devin Armstrong combined for his second shutout in a Highlander uniform.
How It Happened

NJIT got on the board in the 11th minute on a goal by Alvaro Heredia. Heredia received a pass just inside the 18 from Giovanni Massacesi to Heredia, giving NJIT a 1-0 lead.

Transfer Amit Magoz doubled the Highlanders lead in the 27th minute off a left-footed bent cross by Justin Aguirre-Rosas to Amit inside the box who headed it home for a 2-0 advantage.

In the final minute, NJIT added its third goal of the game off a loose ball in front of the net by Matt Moran for a 3-0 lead to close out the first half.

NJIT dominated the first half, out-shooting CCSU 12-3, led by Magoz and two shots from Sokol Ymeraj and Heredia.

Sergio Martinez Cubel put the Highlanders ahead 4-0 on a penalty kick in the 58th minute.

The goal for Heredia was his first of the 2024 season and fifth of his career.

Magoz, a transfer from Stony Brook, netted his first goal in an NJIT uniform.
