FAIRFIELD, CT—The NJIT men's soccer team battled for 90 minutes coming up short in a 1-0 road loss at Sacred Heart Tuesday evening in non-conference action at Park Ave Field.
With the victory, Sacred Heart registered its third straight match, improving to 4-1 while NJIT moved to 2-2-1 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED

After the first 45 minutes, Sacred Heart held a 13-to-6 advantage in overall shots.

NJIT's graduate student Raz Amir paced the Highlanders with three shots.

Junior transfer Devin Armstrong, the reigning America East Conference Defensive Player of the Week made four big saves in the first half.

To start the second half, NJIT's Amit Magoz and Alvaro Heredia fired off shots in the 48th minute with Magoz's shot being blocked and Heredia's shot missing high right.

Sacred Heart broke the 0-0 tie and took a 1-0 advantage in the 63rd minute. Sam McCann collected the ball inside the box off the initial slow roller shot by Alejandro Romero from the top of the 18 to give the Pioneers the lead.

Armstrong made a diving save in the 74th minute to keep the Highlanders within one of the Pioneers.

A free kick by NJIT's Sokol Ymeraj missed high over the crossbar in the 79th minute.

The Pioneers had a fast break opportunity in the 87th minute but NJIT's Armstrong made another impressive stop one-on-one with Elli Stein.

NJIT held the edge in overall shots in the second half, 7-to-5.

The overall shots were in favor of Sacred Heart, 18-13 (8-2 SOG)
- Armstrong finished the match with seven total saves, setting a season-best.
