NEWARK, NJ–The NJIT men's fencing team went a perfect 4-0 at the MACFA B Round Robin while the NJIT women's fencing team split at the Stevens Invitational hosted by Stevens at Canavan Arena.
The NJIT men picked up four wins against Yeshiva (27-0), Army (24-3), Hunter (26-1) and host Stevens (21-6) while the NJIT women went 1-1 with a win over Army West Point (14-13) and dropped at (17-10) decision against host Stevens.
The men's saber squad combined for a 35-1 overall record on the day for a 97.22 winning percentage. Sophomore Jayson Zelaya (men's saber) finished with a 10-0 mark while freshman Allen Trudnos (men's saber) went 8-0.
The men's epee squad registered a 30-6 mark (83..33 winning percentage) led by captain Daniel Jeun, who went a perfect 12-0 on the day.
Graduate student Kevin Katayama led the men's foil squad going 12-0 on the day as the squad combined for a 33-3 overall record (91.67 winning percentage).
On the women's side, Elena Fernandez Negron and Stella Frias each went 6-0 in the women's foil competition. The foil squad registered a 15-3 overall record (83.33 winning percentage).
In the women's epee competition, Megan Hillyer and Gala Krsmanovic each notched a 4-2 mark.
The NJIT women will return to action at the FDU Invitational while the NJIT men compete at the MACFA B vs. C competition on Sunday, February 11.
