VESTAL, NY–Binghamton picked up a 68-48 America East Conference win over visiting NJIT Saturday afternoon inside the Events Center.
Binghamton, winners of two in a row, improved to 11-15 overall, 6-7 in the America East while the Highlanders moved to 9-16 overall, 1-11 in the America East.
Down by 12 at the half, NJIT cut the Bearcats deficit down to nine points, 47-38, after the third quarter but Binghamton outscored the Highlanders in the final quarter, 21-10, to secure its second straight win with a 68-48 victory.
NJIT held an early two-point lead, heading into the first media timeout of the first quarter led by four points on back-to-back baskets from Kenna Squier for a 10-8 lead. Binghamton scored 10 unanswered points for a six-point lead at the end of the first quarter, 18-12.
Binghamton continued to stay hot into the second quarter, scoring the first four points, extending its run to 14-0, resulting in a timeout by the Highlanders at the 8:08 mark. Trinity Williams ended the scoring drought with an old-fashioned three-point play and a layup by Lyzi Litwinko, cutting the Bearcats deficit to six, 23-17. Binghamton pushed its lead to double-digits, 32-20, on a three-pointer by Ella Wanzer at the 4:26 mark. NJIT used a quick 4-2 spurt to cut the lead to nine, after a jumper by Kenna Squier, 35-24, at the 2:44 mark as Binghamton went into the half up 12, 36-24.
Binghamton had four players reach six points after the first 20 minutes while Kenna Squier led NJIT with six points and three rebounds.
NJIT was paced by freshman Marissa Gingrich's career-best 13 points on 5-for-7 shooting from the field to go along with four rebounds. Aria Myers and Alejandra Zuniga each scored eight points while Trinity Williams chipped in seven points, pulled down six rebounds and registered three blocks.
Binghamton's Camryn Fauria led all players with 16 points on 7-of-8 shooting from the field and grabbed a team-best six rebounds. Genevieve Coleman added nine points off the bench for the Bearcats.
NJIT will return back to action with two straight at home, first welcoming New Hampshire on February 22 (7pm) and Maine on Saturday (2pm).
