NEWARK, NJ–The NJIT women's basketball team will welcome UAlbany on Thursday, February 15 for its annual Play4Kay game.
Game Information
The game is slated to start at 7pm inside the Joel and Diane Bloom Wellness and Events Center with in-game statistics available on NJITHighlanders.com. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
Play4Kay
Each year, the NJIT Women's Basketball team takes part in a Play4Kay game in conjunction with the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.
Coach Kay Yow was passionate about uniting the nation of coaches, players and the women's basketball community to do something for the greater good that far exceeds wins and losses on the court. The Play 4 Kay campaign was born in 2007 and continues to grow as it raises funds to support women's cancer research.
All fans are encouraged to wear pink to the game on Thursday!
All-Time Series vs. UAlbany
UAlbany leads the all-time series, 8-1. The Great Danes have won the last eight contests against the Highlanders. NJIT's lone win came in the first all-time meeting on December 9, 2008, a 58-47 victory.
Earning First America East Conference Victory
The NJIT women's basketball team earned its first America East Conference win behind a game-best 26 points from Alejandra Zuniga in the Highlanders 68-56 road victory at UMass Lowell Saturday afternoon inside Costello Athletic Center. NJIT snapped a nine-game skid moving to 9-14 overall, 1-10 in the league.
In addition to Zuniga, Trinity Williams recorded a double-double (12pts and career-best 15 rebounds) and Lyzi Litwinko scored 12 points after shooting 5-of-9 from the field.
Senior Aria Myers chipped in six points, pulled down eight rebounds and dished out three assists. Freshman Audrey Kormann posted a personal-best five rebounds.
NJIT Notes
–NJIT finished the non-conference slate above .500 with an 8-5 mark for the first time in the NJIT Division I era (first season competing against a Division I schedule – 2006-07).
–NJIT led by 2023 America East Conference Rookie of the Year Alejandra Zuniga, is averaging 15.9ppg, which ranks fifth in the league.
–Trinity Williams tops the America East in blocked shots, averaging 1.7bpg. Williams paces the Highlanders on the boards with 7.0rpg while adding 9.3ppg.
NJIT Alumnae Day | March 2, 2024
Save the Date! NJIT Women's Basketball Alumnae Day is set for March 2, 2024, which is also the final regular season game for the Highlanders who will honor its graduating seniors in pregame ceremonies. Pregame reception will be held inside the Joel and Diane Bloom Wellness and Events Center and will begin at 12pm. Alums in attendance will be recognized at halftime.
Scouting UAlbany
UAlbany enters Thursday's contest with a 20-3 overall record, 9-1 in the America East with its long loss coming against Vermont 64-59 on February 1.
The Great Danes have won 16 of its last 17 games and are 9-2 on the road.
Kayla Cooper is the lone player averaging double-figures (16.0ppg) and tops the team with 7.8rpg. Helene Haegerstrand has started all 23 games averaging 9.5ppg followed by DejaEvans at 9.5ppg and 7.2rpg.

NJIT will have a quick turnaround when the Highlanders travel to Binghamton on Saturday, February 17. Tipoff is slated for 1pm.
