NEWARK, NJ–Three Highlanders recorded double-figures led by junior Alejandra Zuniga's team-best 14 points as NJIT cruised past Sacred Heart, 73-52, Wednesday evening in women's basketball non-conference action inside the Joel and Diane Bloom Wellness and Events Center.

NJIT snapped a short two-game skid, improving to 2-2 on the young season while Sacred Heart, the two-time defending Northeast Conference Champions, fell to 1-2 on the year.

Zuniga, who scored double-digits for the fourth time this season, leading the Highlanders with 14 points was followed by graduate student Enya Maguire (12pts) and freshman Allison Cannon (12pts).

The 12 points for Maguire, who played four seasons at Houston Christian, filled up the boxs core, grabbing five rebounds, five steals and three assists.  Cannon, who tied her personal-best mark (also 12 points at Rutgers), shot 4-for-5 from the field, three rebounds and two assists.

NJIT's Madilyn Dogs led all players, pulling down nine rebounds while Marissa Gingrich added six as the Highlanders edged Sacred Heart, 47-to-46.

Sacred Heart's Ny'Ceara, the two-time Northeast Conference Player of the Year, led all scorers with 17 points while Carmen Williams added 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field/

A 7-0 start for the Highlanders a minute into the contest, capped by a three-pointer by Enya Maguire resulted in a Sacred Heart timeout.  The Pioneers rallied back, using a 7-2 spurt to pull within two, 9-7, at the 6:50 mark.  Over the next six minutes, NJIT went on a 19-4 run to increase its lead to as many as 15, 28-13, to end the first quarter.  Maguire and Zuniga led all players with eight points after the first 10.

Sacred Heart scored six consecutive points midway through the second quarter to slim the Highlander lead to 12, 34-22, at the 5:24 mark.  The Highlanders finished the last 1:30 on a 6-1 run as the Highlanders took a 19-point lead at the half, 48-29.

Enya Maguire and Alejandra Zuniga led all scorers with 12 points after the first 20 minutes.  Avery O'Roke came off the bench and scored six points in five minutes for the Highlanders.  As a team, NJIT shot 55.2 percent from the field (16-for-29) and scored 17 bench points paced by O'Roke.

A low-scoring third quarter for both teams saw the Pioneers edge the Highlanders 10-4.  NJIT held a 13-point lead, heading into the fourth quarter, 52-39.

NJIT got back on track to start the fourth quarter, using a 13-5 run over the first six minutes, extending the Highlanders biggest lead of the game to 21, 65-44 and would cruise to a 73-52 home victory over the Pioneers.
