Men’s Soccer Visits UMass Lowell on Saturday at 6pm

NEWARK, NJ–Coming off back-to-back wins at home, the NJIT men's soccer team will make a trip north and visit UMass Lowell.

America East Men's Soccer Highlights Heading into the Weekend
First, Vermont is the only team which can clinch a playoff berth this weekend. Below are the scenarios

  • Vermont clinches berth with a win

  • Vermont clinches berth with a tie AND UML loss AND UAlbany tie or loss

  • All eight teams will still be in playoff contention after this weekend.

  • Over the last ten years in which we had eight MSOC programs the #6 seed has had at least 7 points eight times

  • The lowest point total to win a regular season title has been 15 points, which occurred in 2023 and 2015.

  • The closest playoff race over this span was in 2015 when the top 6 teams were separated by 5 points (15, 11, 11, 10, 10, 10)

  • Teams which accumulate nine points have reached the championship field in 9 of the last 10 years (lone exception being 2015)

Game Information
Saturday's match is slated for 6:00pm at Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium. The match will be streamed live on ESPN+ with in-game statistics available on GoRiverHawks.com.

All-Time Meeting
NJIT leads the all-time series, 3-1-1 and won the last meeting on September 23, 4-1 in Newark.

Highlanders Streak
NJIT is undefeated in the last four-out-of-five matches, including back-to-back wins at home over UAlbany (W, 2-1) and Drexel (W, 2-1).  The Highlanders started off the stretch with a tie against Delawre to open the month of October, dropped a 2-0 decision at Vermont after the match was held scoreless for 75 minutes.

Last Time Out
Sophomore Jake Rubis scored the go-ahead goal in NJIT's 2-1 win over visiting Drexel to wrap up the 2024 non-conference slate Tuesday evening at Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium.

NJIT picks up its second straight win of the season, moving to .500 (6-6-2 overall) while Drexel, who is ranked No. 62 in the latest NCAA Men's Soccer Division I rankings falls to 7-5-1.

The Highlander goal scorers on the night were: Sokol Ymeraj (30:01) and Jake Rubis (63:37).  Devin Armstrong registered the win in goal, making two saves.

Scouting UMass Lowell
UMass Lowell enters Saturday with a 6-3-4 overall record, 1-2-1 in the America East with its lone conference win over UAlbany while tying UMBC.

The River Hawks are on a two-match skid with back-to-back losses vs. Bryant (L, 1-2) and Binghamton (L, 0-1).

Oliver Holmstrom paces the team with four goals followed by Guillermo Frances Poquet and Yanis Lakhlifi with three goals.

Keeper JR Gawl is 5-3-4 overall, including four shutouts, 50 saves and a 1.25 GAA.

Next Up
NJIT will wrap up the home portion of its schedule on Friday, November 1 at 7pm, hosting New Hampshire.  In pregame ceremonies, NJIT will honor its graduating seniors – Amit Magoz, Asembo Augo, Goncalo Franco, Justin Aguirre-Rosas, Matt Moran, Raz Amir and Sokol Ymeraj. The match will be streamed live on ESPN+.
