Box Score Hackensack, N.J. – The NJIT women's volleyball team dropped its non-conference finale to FDU on Wednesday night in four sets.
After dropping the opening set, 25-21, the Highlanders regrouped for a strong second-set victory. NJIT used two early scoring runs, the second of which was capped off by an
Aries Fontaine service ace to put the visitors up, 12-6. The lead for NJIT would grow to as large as eight, 15-7, midway through the set. FDU was able to trim the deficit down to four, 16-12, but a kill and a service ace from
Mariana Cova swung momentum back in the Highlanders' favor.
Cece Marino would cap off the set victory with a kill to even the match at one set apiece.
FDU controlled set three, taking the lead in the match with a 25-15 victory in the frame. In set four, NJIT rallied from an early seven-point deficit to take the lead. However, the Highlanders could not hold the advantage as the Knights took the set, 25-21, to win the match.
Ema Torres finished with her third double-double of the season, tallying 11 kills and 10 digs. Marino earned her second double-double of her freshman campaign with 34 assists and 10 digs.
