Three in a Row; Negri Leads Highlanders with 13 Kills in 3-0 Sweep Against Lindenwood

NEWARK, NJ–The NJIT men's volleyball team won its third straight match at home Friday evening with a 3-0 sweep over visiting Lindenwood led by junior Alessandro Negri with 13 kills in men's volleyball non-conference action inside the Joel and Diane Bloom Wellness and Events Center.

NJIT is now 3-0 at home and 3-3 overall while Lindenwood, still in search of its first victory of the season moves to 0-3 on the season.

Negri, a two-EIVA selection, combined for 13 kills on 23 attempts with just three errors for a .435 hitting percentage while Will Migdal and Antonio Feliciano each registered nine kills.  Migdal finished the match with a .375 hitting percentage.  Carson Williams added seven kills and Andrew Fedmasu posted five kills.

Setter Griffin Fieseler shared match-high honors with Connor Sheehan piling up 33 assists to go along with eight digs and five block assists.  Fedmasu led the Highlanders in front of the net with seven total blocks (one solo, six assists).

Feliciano and Negri each recorded an ace each in the match.

NJIT got off to a quick 10-5 start in the first frame, resulting in a Lindenwood timeout.  The Lions scored seven straight points for a 14-all tie.  NJIT regained the lead by as many as three, 18-15, on a kill by Alessandro Negri.  Lindenwood rallied back to tie the match at 21-all but three straight points by NJIT closed out the set on a 4-2 run capped by a kill by Will Migdal to take the set 1-0.  Negri combined for six kills on a .714 hitting percentage in the frame.

NJIT, which fell behind early in the second set, 6-2, fought back and tied the match at 10-all.  The Highlanders used a 6-2 run to pull ahead, 16-13, on block assists from Griffin Fieseler and Antonio Feliciano.  NJIT, leading by as many as three, 18-15, saw the visiting Lions come back and tie the set at 22-all after four straight points, resulting in an NJIT timeout.  NJIT went on a quick 3-1 run to go up 2-0 with a 25-23 victory in the second set.

The Highlanders started off the third set on a 7-4 run and saw the Lions inch their way back to knot the score at 9-all.  NJIT increased its lead to 16-13 behind a 4-1 spurt, resulting in a Lindenwood timeout.  The Highlanders continued its momentum and pushed its lead up to as many as five, 21-16, and closed out the match on a 5-1 run to secure the 3-0 home sweep.

Lindenwood's AJ Lewis led the match with 14 kills and hit .520 for the match.  Ian Schuller combined for seven digs for the Lions.

NJIT will return to action Saturday night when the Highlanders host No. 2 Long Beach State at 7pm inside the Joel and Diane Bloom Wellness and Events Center.  The match will be streamed live on ESPN+.
