NEWARK, NJ–NJIT's Trinity Williams (10pts, 12reb) and Lyzi Litwinko (12pts, 11reb) each posted a double-double but it wasn't enough as visiting Vermont's Emma Utterback scored a game-best 20 points on its way to a 68-55 road victory over NJIT in women's basketball America East Conference action inside the Joel and Bloom Wellness and Events Center.

Vermont picked up its second straight win of the season, improving to 3-1 in the America East, 11-7 overall while NJIT moves to 0-3 in the league and an even 8-8 overall.

The Catamounts Emma Utterback, a three-time America East first-team selection, netted a game-best 20 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the field followed by Anna Olson (16pts) and Paula Gonzalez (10pts).  Guard Bella Vito dished out a game-best seven assists.

NJIT's Alejandra Zuniga, the 2023 America East Conference Rookie of the Year, paced the Highlanders with 17 points on 7-of-15 shooting from the field and 3-of-4 from three-point range.  Lyzi Litwinko notched a double-double, 12 points and 11 rebounds, which is a season-best for the senior guard while Williams combined for 10 points and 12 rebounds.  This is the second straight game, Williams registered a double-double and the 12 rebounds is a season-best (one shy her career-high).

Vermont jumped out to a quick 12-5 run in the opening five minutes but NJIT scored back-to-back baskets to cut the Catamount lead to six, 16-10, with less than two minutes remaining.  Vermont closed out the first period on an 6-2 spurt to go ahead by 10, 22-12.

Both teams traded baskets to begin the second quarter and trimmed the Catamount gap to single digits, seven, 27-22, on a three-pointer by Alejandra Zuniga with the shot clock winding down at the 5:13 mark and again after a pair of free throws by Lyzli Litiwnko, 31-24, at the 4:48 mark.  Both teams were scoreless in the final 4:35 until a bucket by UVM with thirty seconds before heading into the locker room with a nine-point lead, 33-24.

Utterback led all scorers with nine points followed by Zuniga with eight points.

A quick six points by the Catamounts to start the third quarter, increased the visitors lead to 15, 39-24, as Vermont poured in 21 third quarter points to take a 54-36 advantage.

NJIT went on a 6-2 spurt early in the fourth quarter, behind four points from Trinity Williams to slim Vermont's lead to 16, 56-40, at the 8:50 mark.  The Highlanders used a late 10-3 push to pull within 10, 66-55, with 1:16 on the clock.
