NEWARK, NJ–Coming off its first win of the season, the NJIT men's soccer team will be back in action on Tuesday, September 5 when the Highlanders visit Loyola (MD).

Game Information
Tuesday's match is slated for 7pm at Ridley Athletic Complex.  The match will be streamed live on ESPN+ with in-game statistics available on LoyolaGreyhounds.com.

All-Time Series
Tuesday will mark the third all-time meeting between the two schools.  The series is tied at 1-1.

Last Time Out
Co-captain Goncalo Franco scored a brace in NJIT's 4-1 home-opening win over Villanova Thursday evening in men's soccer non-conference action at Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium.

The Highlanders scored three goals after the first 45 minutes and tallied one goal in the second half.  NJIT goal scorers were: Franco (5:06), Franco (32:27), Andrea Campoli (41:57) and Ramchwy St. Vil (56:26).

Graduate student keeper Samuel Reisgys combined for three saves to earn the win.

2022 Rewind
The Highlanders will look to make it four consecutive appearances in the America East Conference Tournament after finishing the 2022 season with a 5-8-4 overall record, 1-4-2 in the league.

NJIT News and Notes
–Eighth-year head coach Fernando Barboto returns 17 players from a season ago and recently announced the addition of 14 newcomers to the 2023 roster.
–Graduate student Samuel Reisgys and junior Goncalo Franco were named 2023 captains.
–Sophomore Maximus Barboto, son of Fernando Barboto, was named 2022 America East Rookie of the Year and was rated 76th out of 100 freshmen nation-wide in TopDrawerSoccer.com National Freshmen Top-100 Postseason list.
–Barboto, Andrea Campoli and Hugo Tavares were selected to the 2022 America East All-Rookie Team.
–Goalkeeper Samuel Reisgys has combined for 246 career saves, which tops the record books in the NJIT All-Time Division I era.
–NJIT was voted to finish fifth in the 2023 America East Preseason Poll.
–The Highlander schedule features 18 regular season matches and seven America East matches to finish the season.

Scouting Loyola Greyhounds
Loyola enters Tuesday's matchup with NJIT standing at 0-1-2 overall after finishing the 2022 season with a 4-5-8 overall mark, 2-2-5 in the Patriot League.

In 2022, the Greyhounds set a program-high with 8 ties on the season.  The Greyhounds recorded six shutouts during the 2022 season.

Richie Nichols scored his first collegiate goal on Thursday night to give Loyola University Maryland a 1-0 lead in the second half at Virginia Tech, but the Hokies equalized just over 10 minutes later, and the match finished in a 1-1 draw.

NJIT will host five consecutive matches at home in Newark.  

The five-match home stretch: September 8 vs. Rider, September 12 vs. La Salle, September 16 vs. Sacred Heart, September 19 vs. Iona and September 23 vs. UMass Lowell, the first America East Conference match of the season.
