Cross Country Takes Part In Jasper Fall XC Invite

MONTGOMERY, N.Y. — The NJIT cross country teams' second meet of the fall saw the Highlanders take part in the Manhattan College Jasper Fall XC Invitational Saturday evening at Twin Ponds on the Farm.

WOMEN'S RESULTS (6K)
  • Freshman Sarah Van Ornum continued the excellent start to her collegiate career, setting a new 6K school record and breaking the top 20 with an 18th place time of 21:58.0.
  • Katherine Castano was second out of the Highlander group, finishing in 24:34.9 to place 61st.
  • Kimmie Harding (63th, 24:45.7), Jenna Keith (73rd, 25:38.2) and Sofia Velez (77th, 26:39.0) completed the NJIT contingent in the field.
  • As a team, NJIT narrowly missed the top ten, settling in at 11th place with 292 pts.

MEN'S RESULTS (8K)
  • The top performer on the men's side was Anthony Dvorsky, who finished 32nd with a time of 26:14.9.
  • Joining Dvorsky in the top 50 was Austin Essel (49th, 27:04.2), with William Prevost (27:14.5) just missing out in 51st.
  • Rounding out the rest of the Highlander runners were Ethan Kalajian (60th, 27:31.9), Younes Abada (67th, 28:04.0) and Fabian Herrera (86th, 29:57.5).
  • Overall, NJIT placed in the top ten as a team (8th with 259 pts).

NJIT will have two weeks off before its next meet, Lehigh's Paul Short Invitational on Friday, September 29 at 1 p.m. in Bethlehem, PA.
