Van Ornum, Dvorsky Pace Cross Country At America East Championships

10/27/2023 1:04:00 PM

ORONO, Maine — The NJIT men's and women's cross country teams took part in this year's America East Championships Friday morning at the Penobscot Valley Country Club.

The two teams combined to produce four Top 50 finishers across the Women's 5K and Men's 8K races: Van Ornum and Dvorsky's finishes represent the best top runs for the Highlanders in their four-year history of competing in the America East. Van Ornum's time is also the fastest ever for a Highlander at AEs, while Dvorsky's time missed out on former Highlander David Essel's best from 2022 (25:45.4) by about six seconds.

"We pride ourselves on making steady progress and for the first time, both teams were able to finish outside of the final team spot in the same Championship meet. Our goal was finish better than the UAlbany men and UMBC women and we accomplished that goal. This was a big step for our program to no longer be at the bottom of the conference," head coach Jason Munsch said in his post-meet assessment of the two squads.
