HEMPSTEAD, NY - The NJIT women's volleyball team wrapped up play at the Hofstra Invitational on Saturday, splitting a pair of matches as the Highlanders fell to the host Pride in four sets before defeating Siena in straight sets.
In their first match of the day, the Highlanders were defeated 25-17, 20-25, 25-10, 25-22. NJIT was led by
Adriana Goetz-Morales, who sent down 13 kills to go along with three blocks.
Cami Augustine (seven kills) and
Mariana Cova (six kills) each chipped into the offense, as well.
Juliana Impaglia dished out 16 assists to lead the Highlanders, while
Doga Emil helped the offense from her libero position with a career-high 10 assists to go along with a match-high 14 digs.
After hitting .114 against Hofstra, the Highlanders turned things around with an impressive .312 hitting percentage in the 26-24, 25-22, 25-21 sweep of Siena.
Goetz-Morales once again led the offense, this time with 12 kills, while hitting and impressive .579 on 19 attacks.
Elley Torress and
Ines Varela also sent down double-digit kills, recording 10 each.
Maddie Dennis and Impaglia split the setting duties, dishing out 17 and 15 assists, respectively.
Torres tallied a match-high 14 digs for her first double-double of the season.
The Highlanders out-blocked Siena 7-4 at the net led by
Taylor West, who had five total blocks (one solo) to go along with three kills.
Freshman
Sara Siefert was also efficient in just her second-career match, tallying six kills while not recording an error in 15 attacks (.400).
NJIT returns to action on Tuesday when it travels north to take on Central Connecticut State. First serve is slated for 7pm in New Britain, CT.
