All-Academic Team
NEWARK, NJ–Alessandro Negri and Martin de Chavarria were awarded 2023 EIVA Conference honors while six Highlanders were named to the All-Academic team the league office announced on the eve of the conference tournament.
No. 6 NJIT will make its third straight EIVA Conference Tournament appearance on Wednesday, April 19 against No. 3 Charleston (WV). First spike is slated for 4:30pm on the campus of Penn State inside Rec Hall and streamed live (for free) on the Big Ten Plus Network.
Negri, a sophomore from Rome Italy and De Chavarria, a senior from Palma de Mallorca, Spain were both selected to the All-EIVA second-team.
Negri, a two-time EIVA All-Conference selectee, ranks fourth in the conference in kills per set (3.00) and sixth in points (3.42). This season, Negri combined for an EIVA season-best and personal best mark of 26 kills against Harvard (April 7) while registering 10 double-digit kill performances.
De Chavarria, a four-time EIVA All-Conference honoree, is a two-time EIVA Defensive Player of the Week. The 6-foot-7 middle blocker ranks third in the EIVA in hitting percentage (.386) and fourth in blocks (1.00). This season, de Chavarria recorded seven total blocks on three different occasions.
