CHARLESTON, WV–No. 14 Charleston topped visiting NJIT, 3-1, in EIVA Conference action Friday evening.
Charleston, winners of their last six out of seven matches, improved to 20-2 overall and 4-1 in the EIVA while the Highlanders moved to 8-12 overall, 2-4 in the EIVA.
The Eagles, which have won the last three in a row topped the visiting Highlanders 25-20, 25-23, 22-25 and 25-17 Friday evening.
NJIT's Martin de Chavarria, the reigning EIVA Conference Defensive Player of the Week, led the Highlanders with a team-best 13 kills on 22 swings with just three errors for a .455 hitting percentage.
Alessandro Negri added nine kills and four digs while graduate student Roque Nido, the Highlanders setter, recorded a match-best 43 assists to go along with four aces and four digs.
Libero Christian Trevino notched a personal-best 10 digs on the night.
NJIT and Charleston will return to action on Saturday at 4pm to complete the weekend EIVA Conference series.
