Women's Tennis Shut Out By LIU

BETHPAGE. N.Y. — The NJIT women's tennis team was dealt a 7-0 road defeat in its match against the LIU Sharks Friday evening at Sportime Bethpage.

NJIT (5-3) nearly reversed their opening fortunes in doubles action but after Sandra Dzhambazov and Laura Wipfli took the first flight at No. 2, LIU (5-3) responded at No. 1 and slipped past Shalom Salvi and Paula Menendez Alvarez in a third flight tiebreaker.

Without stealing that doubles point - and with the Highlanders down a player for singles at No. 6, LIU started singles with a 2-0 advantage and had the match clinched after winning Nos. 2 and 3 in straight sets. Dzhambazov, Irene Cocero, and Menendez Alvarez finished the match with pride however, forcing LIU to win either a full third set or a third set tiebreaker to win those final three points.

NEXT UP
NJIT will return to action on Saturday, March 4 for a meeting with Drexel in Newark before embarking on a four-match run through Louisiana.
