Women’s Basketball Wraps Up America East Road Slate on Wednesday at Bryant

NJIT will look for the season series sweep against the Bulldogs

NEWARK, NJ–The NJIT women's basketball team will wrap up the America East Conference road slate on Wednesday when the Highlanders travel to Bryant.

Tip off is slated for 7pm inside Chace Athletic Center on ESPN+.  In game statistics are available on BryantBulldogs.com for free.

All-Time Series
Wednesday will mark the fourth all-time meeting between the two schools.  Bryant leads the series, 2-1.  The last two meetings have been decided by four or less points.

America East Conference
The Highlanders have clinched a spot into the postseason tournament with the No. 5 seed.

This season, NJIT registered three season series sweeps against New Hampshire, UMass Lowell, Binghamton and a home victory against Bryant and a big road win at Maine.

13 Overall Wins | 8 America East Victories
The 13 wins are two shy of the 15-win output from a season ago which marked the second highest win total in the Division I era.  The eight wins in the America East are one shy of the program-best nine wins accomplished last season.

Last Time Out
Kenna Squier scored a team-best 18 points but it wasn't enough as Vermont extended its win streak to 12 games with an 85-73 home victory over visiting NJIT Saturday afternoon in America East Conference women's basketball action inside Patrick Gymnasium.

The Highlanders were led by Squier, who combined for a team-best 18 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the field followed by Trinity Williams (15 points) and Alejandra Zuniga (13 points).  Zuniga led the Highlanders on the glass with six rebounds and dished out four assists.  Kiana Brereton came off the bench and chipped in nine points in 11 minutes of action.

Two in a Row for Alejandra Zuniga - Fourth of the Season
Zuniga, picked up her second consecutive Rookie of the Week honor and fourth of the season, averaging 22.0ppg, 4.5rpg and 4.5apg in a 1-1 week for the Highlanders.

The 5-foot-6 guard scored a career-best 31 points to lead NJIT to a 75-70 home victory over visiting Binghamton Wednesday evening. The 31 points scored by Zuniga are the most points scored by a freshman since the 2007-08 season when Jessica Gerald '11 scored a school-record 37 points against Cal-State Bakersfield.  

Zuniga is the second player to score 30+ in conference play this year, joining Adrianna Smith who has tallied 30+ points three times.

Scouting Bryant
Bryant will enter Wednesday's contest with an 8-19 overall record and 2-12 in the America East. 

The Bulldogs are coming off a road victory at UMass Lowell, 63-54, behind Nicole Gallagher and Mariona Planes Fortuny whoo tallied 15 points.  Marta Neira Martinez posted 13 points, and Kemari Reynolds recorded 11 points.

Planes Fortuny ranks second in the America East in scoring at 15.9ppg while Gallagher ranks fifth in rebounding (6.4).

Next Up
NJIT will close out the regular season on Saturday at 2pm when the Highlanders host UAlbany inside NJIT's Wellness and Events Center.  In pregame ceremonies, NJIT will honor its six graduating seniors – Kenna Squier, Kendle Dalrymple, Grace Plummer, Maria Fux, Kennedy Cash and Dani Evans.
