BALTIMORE, MD–The NJIT men's fencing team recorded a 5-0 record on the day at the MACFA B vs. C meet hosted by Johns Hopkins Sunday afternoon.
NJIT's wins came against: Johns Hopkins (16-11), Haverford (21-6), Williams & Mary (24-3), Navy (23-4) and Maryland (22-5).
In the men's foil competition, Cristian Candescu went a perfect 10-0 on the day for a 100% winning percentage. Josh Schaefer followed with nine wins, Kevin Katayama with eight wins (80% winning percentage) and Robert Rountree with seven wins (77.78% winning percentage).
Freshman Niels Roubailo recorded a perfect 9-0 mark in men's epee competition for a 100% winning percentage followed by Robert Hondor with a 7-1 overall record (87.50& winning percentage).
Sophomore Christopher Cortez notched a team-best 14 wins in the saber competition, finishing 14-1 with a 93.3% winning percentage while freshman Adrian Figueredo combined for a 13-2 mark, good for a 86.67% winning percentage. Justin Petway added an 8-1 mark.
NJIT will return to action at the MACFA Championships on March 5 hosted by Drew University.
Last season, NJIT picked up its third straight title and fourth overall (2016, 2019, 2020, 2022) team MACFA Championship title in the last seven years. The MACFA Championships were not held in 2021 due to COVID.
