LONG BEACH, CA–No. 4 Long Beach State blanked visiting NJIT, 3-0 (25-19, 25-13, 25-13) Saturday evening in men's volleyball non-conference action inside Walter Pyramid.
Long Beach State, which swept the two-match series from visiting NJIT, improves to 8-2 on the season while the Highlanders move to 5-7.
The Beach hit .500 for the match paced by Shane Holdaway's eight kills followed by Spencer Olivier (7), Simon Torwie (7) and Clark Godbold (7). Holdaway finished the match with an .889 hitting percentage on nine attempts with no errors while Torwie combined for a .600 hitting percentage.
Aidan Knipe piled up a match-best 32 assists to go along with four digs and two block assists.
Long Beach State held a 13-to-2 advantage in front of the net led by Torwie (seven block assists), Olivier (six assists) and Godbold (4 assists).
NJIT was led by senior Carson Williams and graduate student Jens Feldthus who each notched six kills apiece. Williams recorded a .364 hitting percentage on 11 swings and two errors while Feldthus registered 18 attempts with just one error for a .278 hitting percentage.
Libero Christian Trevino recorded four digs and setter Roque Nido added 12 assists. Griffin Fieseler, who played in one set, registered six assists.
NJIT will return back to Newark and host a pair of EIVA Conference matches against No. 3 Penn State on Friday, February 24 (at 6pm) and Saturday, February 25 (at 7pm). Both matches will be streamed live on ESPN+.
