POSTGAME INTERVIEW WITH HEAD COACH PEDRO TREVINO
NEWARK, NJ - The NJIT women's volleyball team was defeated in four sets by visiting New Hampshire in America East action on Friday evening at the Joel and Diane Bloom Wellness and Events Center (WEC).
Elley Torres shined for the Highlanders in her penultimate home match, sending down 15 kills, while hitting .343 on the evening. Torres helped lead NJIT to a 25-22 first set win, but the Wildcats bounced back winning the next three sets 25-20, 25-22, and 25-15, respectively to win the match.
Torres was joined in double figures by
Adriana Goetz-Morales, who recorded 10 kills while hitting .360 in the four-set match.
Juliana Impaglia led the team with 22 assists and
Maddie Dennis chipped in with 16.
Defensively,
Doga Emil led the way with 19 digs, while Torres had 11 to complete the double-double.
Sara Siefert just missed a double-double with eight kills and 11 digs.
Torres,
Ines Varela and
Rowan Schreiber each tallied four blocks to pace NJIT as the Highlanders dominated the blocking battle at the net 9-2.
NJIT returns to action Sunday for its final home match of the season when it hosts Bryant at 1pm back in the WEC. The team will honor its two seniors - Torres and
Kaitlyn Arias - prior to the match.
