NEWARK, NJ - The NJIT women's volleyball team was defeated by visiting FDU in four sets on Tuesday evening at the Wellness and Events Center.
FDU took the first two sets, 25-22 and 25-21, respectively, before the Highlanders extended the match with a 25-17 third-set victory. NJIT was unable to carry the momentum into the fourth set as the visitors won the frame 25-17 to clinch the 3-1 victory in the match.
Asher Vallone was NJIT's top offensive threat on Tuesday, setting a career-high with 14 kills for her third double-digit kill performance through eight matches this season.
The Highlanders were impressively defensively at the net, out-blocking FDU 15-13 with
Ines Varela's career-high-tying eight blocks (one solo) leading the way.
Doga Emil led the Highlanders with 23 digs, while
Juliana Impaglia dished out a match-high 33 assists to go along with 11 digs and four block assists.
NJIT will look to get back in the win column on Friday when they open up a three-match weekend at Providence against Holy Cross. First serve against the Crusaders is slated for 7pm.
