LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ–NJIT scored a goal in each half and goalkeeper Samuel Reisgys made a diving save in the final minutes on a Rider penalty kick as the Highlanders and Broncs played to a 2-2 draw in non-conference men's soccer action Sunday afternoon at Ben Cohen Stadium.

NJIT picks up its second tie of the season and concludes a season-opening seven match road swing, moving to 2-3-2 overall while Rider stands at 1-4-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Rider got on the board in the 11th minute on an own goal for a 1-0 lead.

  • NJIT scored the equalizer a minute later off a beautiful pass from Jordi Navio Sanchez, who slipped the ball past two Rider defenders to Jose Del Valle.  Del Valle took two dribbles and tucked the ball into the bottom left for a 1-1 tie.

  • The Broncs' regained the lead, 2-1, in the 32nd minute on a goal by Mo Bochner, assisted by Jack MeGeechan and Lenny Cidolit.

  • NJIT's Justin Aguirre-Rosas knotted the match at 2-2 on a long left-footed blast from the right side of the field in the 65th minute.

  • In the 85th minute, NJIT senior keeper Samuel Reisgys came up with a huge save on a Rider penalty kick by Diene Babacar.

NOTEWORTHY

  • The goal for Del Valle, a transfer from Northwestern, was his second in a Highlander uniform and sixth of his career.

  • Navio Sanchez' assist was his first as a Highlander and third of his career.   Prior to joining the Highlanders, Navio Sanchez played one season at Erskine.

  • Aguirre-Rosa's goal was his first of his young career.

  • The save in the 85th minute by co-captain Reisgys was his 206 career save, which ranks tied for first in the NJIT Division I era with Victor Pujades'19. Reisgys combined for three saves on seven shots faced by the Rider squad.

  • NJIT held a 12-6 advantage in overall shots and 8-4 with shots on goal.  Del Valle and Jack Krongold each combined for three shots.

NEXT UP
