Box Score VESTAL, NY - The NJIT women's volleyball team was defeated in straight sets by host Binghamton in America East action on Friday at West Gymnasium.

Despite the result, the Highlanders have a memorable moment to take away from the evening as senior Courtney Branch's first block of the evening was her 290th total block of her career, breaking the previous record of 289 set by Kristy Haeckel, who played for NJIT from 2006-09.

Branch, who currently leads the America East in hitting percentage by a wide margin, finished the match with three blocks to give her 292 for her career and 92 for the season, another career-best.

Despite Branch's memorable evening, the Bearcats took the match 25-17, 25-14, 25-14 to clinch a spot in the upcoming America East Playoffs.

Adriana Goetz-Morales was the Highlanders top offensive performer, finishing with eight kills, while Ines Varela had six and Elley Torres chipped in with five.

The Highlanders return to the court on Sunday when they host Bryant in their annual Senior Day match at 1pm in the Wellness and Events Center. Prior to the match, NJIT will honor its five seniors - Katelyn Bliesner, Branch, Goetz-Morales, Emma Godwin, and Juliana Impaglia
