BALTIMORE - The NJIT women's volleyball team dropped a four-set match to host UMBC in America East Conference action on Friday evening at Chesapeake Employers Insurers Arena.
The two-time defending America East Champion Retrievers, who are undefeated through seven conference matches this season, looked like they were going to run away with the match after taking the first two sets 25-15 and 25-12. NJITÂ got back into the match with a 25-22 third-set win, but the Retrievers took the fourth set 25-16 to clinch the victory.
Sophomore
Asher Vallone set a new career-high with 15 kills on Friday, hitting ,211 on 38 attempts.
Cami Augustine was also impressive offensively as the sophomore came off the bench to send down eight kills to go along with .263 hitting percentage.
Freshman
Maddie Dennis took over the setting duties after two sets and helped lead the Highlanders to the third-set win and dished out a team-high 17 assists, while also factoring in on four blocks.
The Highlanders return to action on Sunday when they host UAlbany at 4pm in another America East Conference match at the Wellness and Events Center in Newark.
