Newark, DE - The NJIT women's volleyball team wrapped up play at the Delaware Invitational on Saturday, falling twice, first to Maryland-Eastern Shore and then to Fordham in the Bob Carpenter Center.
NJIT (1-3) was defeated in straight sets by both UMES (2-3) and Fordham (2-3).
Match One
UMES took the first two sets 25-19 and 26-24, respectively, before completing the sweep with a 25-17 victory in the third set.
Adriana Goetz-Morales was the Highlanders' top offensive performer, recording seven kills, while
Courtney Branch and
Elley Torres finished with six each.
Kyla Lannert once again handled the setting duties for NJIT and dished out 18 in the three-set match.
Ines Varela and Branch each finished with three blocks including a solo block apiece as the Highlanders combined for six blocks.
Kaitlyn Arias' 12 digs were a match-high.
Match Two
Fordham held off NJIT 25-22 in the opening set, before winning the next two more comfortably, 25-18 and 25-9 to earn the victory.
Four different Highlanders tallied at least six kills in the match, with Torres' eight pacin the squad. Varela had six kills and just one error, finishing with an impressive attacking percentage of .417.
Lannert recorded a double-double recording team-highs in both assists (22) and digs (11).
Varela turned away four balls at the net, including one solo block to lead the Highlanders.
Asher Vallone made her collegiate debut against Fordham and finished the match with a pair of kills.
