NEWARK, NJ - NJIT women's volleyball Head Coach
Pedro Trevino, who will begin his third season coaching the Highlanders in late August, has announced his 2021 recruiting class.
Trevino is bringing in five student-athletes who hail from four different states and Portugal.
"I am so excited to have these young women join our program," said Trevino.."All of them have played at a high level and will bring a lot of experience and charisma to the NJIT women's volleyball family.
Joining the Highlanders this fall will be Kelle Anwander, Cami Augustine, Asher Vallone, Ines Varela, and Campbell Walker.
Kelle Anwander
Position: Middle
Height: 6'4
Hometown: Toms River, NJ
HS: Toms River South
Club: Tomahawk Volleyball Club
Trevino on Anwander:
Kelle had a very good high school career and I look for her to continue that here. She is joining a crowded middle position, but I know that won't faze her and she is up to the challenge.
Cami Augustine
Position: Outside Hitter
Height: 5'10
Hometown: Belleville, IL
HS: Belleville East
Club: HPSTL
Trevino on Augustine:
Cami played for a very good club and is a very well rounded player. I expect big things from her.
Asher Vallone
Position: Outside Hitter
Height: 5'11
Hometown: Laredo, TX
HS: John B. Alexander HS
Club: Alamo Volleyball Association
Trevino on Vallone:
When we were recruiting Asher she impressed me so much on her desire to get better and work hard for it. I know she will come in and work hard from day one and do her best to help this program this fall.
Ines Varela
Position: Middle
Height: 6'0
Hometown: Lisbon, Portugal
HS: Escola Secundária Camilo Castelo Branco
Club: SL Benfica
Trevino on Varela:
Ines is a very nice addition to the program. She has been playing at a very high level for several years now and that experience will help with her transition from Portugal to Newark. The minute I saw her highlight video I could tell we were getting a very high skill player.
Campbell Walker
Position: Libero/DS
Height: 5'9
Hometown: Alexandria, VA
HS: Thomas Edison HS
Club: VAE Volleyball Club
Trevino on Walker:
We got Campbell late in the recruiting process, and we were lucky for doing so. Normally you don't find talent that late, but we did with Campbell. She is a quarterback when she is on the court and I look for her to bring that same style to our program.
