Bachar, Franco Earn America East Men's Swimming & Diving All-Academic Honors

NEWARK, N.J. --- NJIT men's swimming and diving student-athletes Itay Bachar and Joshua Franco have been named to the America East All-Academic team, the conference announced Wednesday afternoon.

Bachar, a sophomore Computer Science major from Tenafly, posted the highest grade point average on the All-Academic team with a perfect 4.0. Franco, a junior Information Technology major from Hillsborough, made the team with a 3.77 GPA.

Franco earned four medals - two relay golds, a relay silver and a relay bronze - to help the Highlanders place third at their first-ever America East Swimming Championships, which were hosted by NJIT in April. Bachar was one of three Highlanders to compete in NJIT's first-ever America East Diving Championships prior to the swimming portion.

To be eligible for All-Academic, student-athletes must have sophomore athletic eligibility, attain a 3.30 minimum grade-point average and be a contributor on their team. The squad is voted on by a committee made up of America East student-athlete support and athletic communications administrators as well as faculty athletic representatives.
