Men's Swimming Takes Third At America East Championships; Horstkamp-Vinekar Named Top Rookie

NEWARK, N.J. --- The NJIT men's swimming and diving team wrapped up its first-ever America East Swimming Championships appearance Sunday evening, claiming third place overall with a total of 614 points. Binghamton took the men's championship with 889 points and UMBC placed second with 872.

In the women's swimming championships, New Hampshire prevailed (817 points) over UMBC (621.5) and Vermont (613.5).


The host Highlanders were led on Day 3 by freshman Ian Horstkamp-Vinekar, who was named Most Outstanding Rookie of the Meet after claiming seven total medals over the weekend. On Sunday, Horstkamp-Vinekar added 200 Back (1:46.00) and 200 Fly (1:47.50) titles to his haul and established new NJIT school records in both events.


NJIT picked up another medal in the final event of the meet as the quartet of Edward Madrigal, Joshua Franco, Horstkamp-Vinekar, and Nicholas Lyons earned silver in the 400 Free Relay with a new NJIT school best time of 3:04.60.
