NEWARK, NJ--Coming off its first America East Conference win at UMBC Tuesday, NJIT will be back in action three days later, hosting Stony Brook on Friday, March 12 at Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium.

New Home for the Highlanders
NJIT, which officially joined the league on July 1, 2020, as the 10th full member institution, will begin its inaugural season in the America East on February 26 when the Highlanders visit UMBC.

The Highlanders were picked to finish fourth according to a vote of the league's coaches.  The league's coaches voted the Seawolves eighth.

Last Time Out
The NJIT men's soccer team picked up its first program win in the America East Conference with a 2-1 road victory at UMBC Tuesday evening at Retriever Soccer Stadium. 

NJIT, which last played on February 17, paused all team-related activities shortly after, due to COVID-related protocols.  With the win on Tuesday, NJIT improved to 1-0-1, 1-0-0 in the America East while UMBC moved to 1-1-1, 0-1-1 in the America East.

The Highlanders scored a pair of goals in the second half from freshman Tomas Jorge (54th minute; penalty kick) and senior Regsan Watkins scored the game-winner (76th minute) as NJIT grabbed a 2-1 lead.  Sophomore goalkeeper Samuel Reisgys recorded the win, stopping eight Retriever shots.

Reisgys, the 2019 ASUN Goalkeeper of the Year, paces the America East Conference in saves per game (8.50) and total saves (17).

NJIT Outlook
The Highlanders will be returning to competition off the programs first-ever ASUN Conference Regular Season and Tournament title and NCAA Tournament appearance. 

NJIT, which finished with a Division I school-record ten wins last season, ranked in the Top 10 of the United Soccer Coaches Atlantic Region poll all season, with its highest ranking coming during the second week of the season (No. 2). NJIT closed the season ranked fifth out of 10 teams.

The Highlanders finished last season 10-5-4 overall, 5-1-0 in the ASUN.

NJIT return seven players who earned All-ASUN honors including, Coach of the Year (Fernando Barboto), Player of the Year (Rene White), Goalkeeper of the Year (Samuel Reisgys) and Rookie of the Year (Alejandro Rabell).

Scouting the Seawolves
Stony Brook, still in search of its first win of the season, enters Friday's America East Conference match-up with a 0-2-1 overall mark and 0-0-1 in league play.  

The Seawolves are coming off a 0-0 double overtime tie at UMBC on March 5, which marked the first league match of the season for Stony Brook.

Stony Brook has scored three goals this season and is led by freshman Aki Solvason, with a pair of goals, which ranks first in the America East.

Next Up
NJIT will return to action at home on Tuesday, March 16 at 3pm, hosting Hofstra in non-conference action at Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium.
