NEWARK, NJ - The NJIT women's volleyball team won the opening set against visiting St. Francis Brooklyn on Wednesday at the Wellness and Events Center, but the Terriers bounced back to take the next three sets and win the non-conference match 3-1.
The Highlanders hit .248 in the match, their second-best hitting percentage of the season and tallied 15 blocks, which also happened to be their second best blocking performance of the season, but St. Francis was still able to take the match 15-25, 25-17, 25-22, 26-24.
Several Highlanders had impressive performances, including freshman
Cami Augustine, who finished with a career-best and match-high-tying 16 kills to go along with 11 digs to complete the double-double. Juniors
Juliana Impaglia (35 assists, 11 digs) and
Adriana Goetz-Morales (10 kills, 12 digs) also finished with double-doubles.
At the net, it was freshman
Ines Varela's eight blocks (one solo) and junior
Courtney Branch's seven blocks leading the way for NJIT.
The Highlanders return to the court on Sunday when they host Stony Brook back at the WEC. First serve is scheduled for 1pm.
