NEWARK, NJ--Visiting UMBC scored three second-half goals in a 3-2 come-from-behind win at NJIT in America East Conference men's soccer action on NJIT Senior Night Thursday evening at Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium.
In pregame ceremonies, NJIT honored its graduating seniors -- Joao Costa, Tomas Jorge, Fabrizio Doria, Luc Smith, Gabriel Souza, Paul Kondratowicz, Gerald Cubero and J.J. Gaeir.
With the win, UMBC improves to 8-7-2 overall, 3-4-1 in the league while NJIT moves to 4-11-1 overall, 2-5-0 in the America East.
NJIT will conclude the regular season on Monday, November 1 at Hartford. Kickoff is slated for 6pm. The Highlanders enter the final regular season match with six points and a chance to qualify to the America East Postseason Tournament.
The Retrievers goal scorers were: Dillion Nesteruk '50, Jackson Becher '59 and Hayden Lim '73. UMBC's Julian Conze and William Forby each were credited with an assist.
NJIT's first-half goal scorers were: fifth-year senior Rene White '29 and freshman Goncalo Franco '32. Fifth-year senior Regsan Watkins and Tomas Jorge each picked up an assist in the loss.
The Highlanders held a slight edge in overall shots 12-to-11 paced by Franco with four shots followed by White (3) and Jorge (2) and Watkins (2).
UMBC's Quantrell Jones picked up the win, stopping four Highlander shots while counterpart Samuel Reisgys combined for two saves.
UMBC with an early scoring opportunity in the sixth minute, after a free kick was awarded after a card on the Highlanders, deflected off the left post by Taylor Calheira.
In the 17th minute, NJIT's Rene White recorded the Highlanders first shot of the match on a sharp left-footed strike inside the box, saved by UMBC keeper Quantrell Jones.

The Highlanders broke through in the 29th minute on a goal by Rene White assisted by Regsan Watkins for a 1-0 lead. The goal for White is his ninth of the season and 47th of his career, which tops the NCAA among active career goal leaders.
NJIT doubled its lead three minutes later on the first career goal by Goncalo Franco, assisted by Tomas Jorge off a corner kick for a 2-0 advantage.
UMBC scored a pair of goals in a span of eight minutes to tie the match at 2-2. Dillon Nesteruk got the Retrievers on the board in the 50th minute off a set piece on a bended pass by Julian Conze. The goal for Nesteruk was his first collegiate goal. UMBC tied the match at 2-2 in the 59th minute on a goal by Jackson Becher who received a pass from the penalty area by William Forby.
The Retrievers, which scored three unanswered goals, took its first lead of the match in the 73rd minute on a goal by Hayden Lim taking a 3-2 advantage.
