NEWARK, NJ--The NJIT men's soccer team will begin a stretch of road matches, first traveling to Hofstra on Saturday, October 16 in men's soccer non-conference action.

Game Information
Kickoff is set for 5pm at Hofstra Soccer Stadium. The match will be streamed live on FloSports with in-game statistics available on www.GoHofstra.com.  

All-Time Series
Hofstra leads the all-time series, 1-0.  The two teams met for the first time in the Spring of 2021 with Hofstra scoring a pair of second-half goals, topping the Highlanders 2-1 in Newark.

Last Time Out for NJIT
Stony Brook scored a goal in each half on its way to a 2-1 road victory at NJIT Wednesday evening in America East Conference action at Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium.

Watkins evened the score at 1-1 in the 55th minute on a right-footed shot from the top of the penalty area, assisted by Rene White.  Watkins picked up his 39th career goal and moved into second among NCAA Division I leaders while White tallied his 102nd career point which tops all NCAA Division I leaders in points.

NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Career Active List
NJIT graduate students Rene White and Regsan Watkins are ranked the top three in goals and top three in points among NCAA Division I active career men's soccer leaders as of October 14. 

White, from Bloomfield, NJ, ranks first in the NCAA in career goals (46) and in points (102) while teammate Watkins, from Capetown, South Africa sits tied for second in goals (39) and third in points (93).

A 2021 CoSIDA Academic All-America first-team honoree, White ranks third all-time in the record books in goals and fourth in points while holding the NJIT Division I record for total goals.

Watkins, the 2021 America East Conference Striker of the Year, ranks fourth all-time at NJIT in goals and fifth in points.  The Highlander forward played two seasons at Bloomfield College prior to attending NJIT, tallying 22 goals.

2021-22 Senior CLASS Award candidates
NJIT fifth-year seniors Rene White and Regsan Watkins join a list of 60 NCAA men's and women's student-athletes selected as the 2021-22 Senior CLASS Award candidates.  To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character, and competition. 

2021 National Rankings
NJIT's White ranks tied for 14th in the nation in total goals with eight.  His 19 total points ranks tied for 13th.

​​America East Preseason Coaches' Poll
NJIT, which played its first season in the America East Conference in the Spring 2021, made the programs first-ever appearance in the postseason tournament after sitting atop Pod C with a 4-2 conference record, earning the No. 3 seed.  NJIT finished the season with a 4-5-1 overall record.   

The Highlanders were selected to finish third according to the vote of the nine league coaches in the 2021 Fall Preseason Coaches Poll.

Scouting the Opponent
Hofstra, owners of a 10-1-1 record and an eight-game undefeated streak (7-0-1) are well represented in the latest national rankings.

The Pride is now the top team receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches Poll, in the Top Drawer Soccer Top 25 Poll, the Pride come in at No. 22 and moved up a spot from last week and in the College Soccer News Top 30 Poll, Hofstra is the top team in the receiving votes category.

In addition, the NCAA released their first RPI report of the 2021 season and Hofstra is No. 11. 

Ryan Carmichael scored a pair of goals in Hofstra's 1-0-1 week as the Pride extended their unbeaten streak to eight games (7-0-1). The Northern Ireland native opened the scoring in Hofstra's 3-1 victory over Columbia on Oct. 5 and then scored the Pride's lone goal in a 1-1 draw at Charleston this past Saturday. He has eight goals in his last five contests and currently leads the team and the Colonial Athletic Association with 10 goals. Carmichael ranks third nationally in goals scored. 

Next Up
NJIT, in a stretch of the last four-out-of-five matches on the road, will visit Drexel on October 19 at 5pm.
