NJIT Begins Second Half of ASUN Play on Saturday; Welcomes Jacksonville

NEWARK, NJ--The second half of ASUN Conference women's basketball action begins on Saturday at 1pm when the Highlanders host Jacksonville at 1pm inside NJIT's Wellness and Events Center.

The game will be streamed live on ESPN+.  Michael Ventola, the voice of the Highlander women, will handle the play-by-play and color analysis from Matt Provence.

A simple way to find ESPN+ is on NJIT's official athletics website, www.njithighlanders.com. Near the middle of the home page under the headlines section, an upcoming events calendar lists scheduled NJIT contests. After finding the event, click the camera icon to the left of the event listing. That brings you to an ESPN+ portal where you can access the desired program.

Pink Month
NJIT will be raising money and awareness for breast cancer at every men's and women's basketball home game in February. Fans, students, and staff can bid on items listed on the silent auction table to help raise money for the American Cancer Society. The Auction will begin on February 3rd at women's basketball vs North Alabama and end on February 24 at women's basketball vs Stetson. Every item will have a starting bid number. Each additional bid must be increased by the margin that is listed on each prize sheet. People that bid must write down their name, email and phone number so they can be contacted if they win ​​​​​​ Winners will be contacted at the end of the month and will have two weeks to claim their prize(s). Payments must be in cash or check, no credit cards will be accepted.

All-Time Series
Jacksonville leads the all-time series, 9-0.  In the first meeting this season on January 13, the Dolphins topped visiting NJIT, 88-67.

Last Time Out
Senior guard Ivy Wallen hit a jumper with :08 seconds, leading North Alabama to a 57-55 road victory at NJIT in ASUN Conference action Monday evening inside NJIT's Wellness and Events Center.

NJIT (3-18, 0-8 in ASUN) down five with 2:12 left in the game sank a three-pointer from the top of the key by junior Ellyn Stoll and Kenna Squier connected with a driving layup with :28 seconds on the clock to tie the game at 55-all.

North Alabama (15-6, 6-3 in ASUN) called for a timeout with :10 seconds, which setup the game-winning basket, scored by Ivy Wallen on a jumper inside the three-point arc. 

The Highlanders had a chance with :05 seconds but the shot went off the back of the rim as the Lions held on for a 57-55 victory.

Scouting the Highlanders
NJIT (3-18, 0-8 ASUN) will open the second half of the ASUN Conference season on Saturday at 1pm inside NJIT's Wellness and Events Center.

The Highlanders are led by veteran forward Danielle Tunstall, who is averaging 12.5ppg and 8.4rpg, which ranks fourth in the ASUN.  Tunstall has registered double-digits in the last four out of six games, including a double-double against Lipscomb with 14 points and 14 rebounds.

NJIT freshman guard Kenna Squier is the Highlanders other double-digit scorer at 11.1ppg while shooting 49.7 percent from the field (82-165).  Squier has notched double-digits in the last six out of seven contests and has dished out at least one assist in every game but three, including a career-best seven against Liberty.

Scouting the Dolphins
Jacksonville (13-9, 5-4 ASUN) has won the last three out of four contests, most recently dropping a 81-68 decision at FGCU.

The Dolphins are led by two double-figures scorers -- Destiny Marshall (15.3) and Shakayla Nevitt (12.2).  Marshall currently ranks in the top five in the scoring category in the ASUN.

Three-point threat Da'Nasia Shaw tops the ASUN in three-point percentage (56.3).

Jada Perry, who led the Dolphins against FGCU with 15 points and eight rebounds leads the team on the boards, averaging 7.4rpg.

Next Up
NJIT will host North Florida on Monday at 7pm inside NJIT's Wellness and Events Center.  The game will be streamed live on ESPN+.  In the first meeting this season, the Ospreys defeated visiting NJIT, 71-48, on January 11.
