Volleyball Extends Wins Streak to Four; Sweeps Visiting St. Francis Brooklyn

NEWARK, NJ--The NJIT men's volleyball team extended its win streak to four with a 3-0 sweep over visiting St. Francis Brooklyn Saturday afternoon in non-conference volleyball action inside NJIT's Wellness and Events Center.

NJIT picked up its third straight 3-0 victory (def. No. 11 Purdue Fort Wayne; def. Ball State; def St. Francis Brooklyn), improving to 5-2 on the season, marking the best start since the 2008 season.

The Highlanders won in straight sets -- 25-19, 25-20 and 25-18 led by Alvaro Gimeno and Jens Feldthus each combining for 10 kills.  In six matches this season, Feldthus has notched double-digit kills in every match, including a season-best 14 against Ball State.  He finished the match with a .526 hitting percentage against the Terriers on 19 attempts and no errors. Gimeno recorded a .526 hitting percentage on 16 swings and just two errors.

Reigning AVCA National Player of the Week Roque Nido paced the match with 35 assists while Will Andrews and Martin de Chavarria each led the Highlanders with six digs.  Nido notched three total blocks (one solo, two assists) in front of the net for NJIT.

Senior middle Luca Berger posted a .600 hitting percentage on six kills and 10 attempts.

As a team, NJIT hit .342 and combined for a match-best .417 percentage in the third set, registering 13 kills.

St. Francis Brooklyn (2-2) was led by David Vorfi's team-best eight kills while Andrew Piloto added 21 assists and three digs.  Defensively, Dominick Pikura registered six digs for the Terriers.

NJIT will break and return to action on Friday when the Highlanders open EIVA Conference action at 6pm, welcoming Princeton to NJIT's Wellness and Events Center.
